Changing few Important WordPress Default Settings

Changing Default Wordpress Settings

DESIGNING and CHANGING THE WEBSITE (ACCORDING TO YOUR TASTE AND NEEDS)

Progress till now-
House address done (Domain bought)
Land bought (Web Hosting bought)
House built (WordPress Installed)
Plumbing and electricity ok (Website Working)

Next Step-
Putting furniture, sofas, painting, tv, internet connection in the house (Designing and Changing your website according to your needs and taste with your pictures, videos, texts, contents etc.)

Before I tell you how to install theme, which theme to install etc, I request you to first inspect your WordPress admin area.
(Before you buy furniture for your house it is always good to first go inside the house and inspect it a bit.)

GOING TO YOUR WORDPRESS SITE ADMIN AREA
(Where all the magic happens)

1- Open your browser. Type the full name of your website with /wp-admin at last.
Like your website name is www.UndertakerSharma.com
In the browser search bar you have to type www.undertakersharma.com/wp-admin
(Above step is for 99.9% of you reading this. However if the login page does not show up. Contact Web Hosting support. Maybe you will have to add ‘/wp/’ before ‘wp-admin’)

2- Now you are at WordPress admin login page.
Wordpress Login
3- Fill in the details that you used/filled while installing WordPress in cpanel of your web hosting.
(It is on your notebook, if you have noted it)
(If you haven’t written it or do not know which username password to use, go to Hostiner (or your web hosting provider), chat with them/email them etc and ask them ‘What is my login credentials for my WordPress site?’) (OR if you remember your email address that you used during WordPress Installation in cpanel then click forget password and follow the steps.)

4- Login to wordpress.

5- You will be inside WordPress Dashboard.

6- Explore a bit. See what’s there. Do not change any setting that you do not understand. (This is just to make you familiar with the dashboard.)

Now, Before we start installing themes and start customizing our website, we have to change some important settings.

Go to WordPress Dashboard. (You already may be there.)

Click on ‘Settings’ (or hover mouse on Settings and click ‘General’)
Check (or make changes if you want) to your Site Title (site name) and Tagline.
This is further explained here.

If you have bought SSL from web hosting provider or if it was given free and is installed by your web hosting provider,
and if your WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) begins with http://www
then you need to add ’s’ at the end of ‘http’

So your current URL which is shown as http://www.yourwebsitename.com
will become https://www.yourwebsitename.com

Change for both WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL)
(If you have no SSL then you do not need to change this.)

Change your timezone accordingly.
(For India it is UTC+5:30)

Rest options, you know.

Click ‘SAVE CHANGES’

Now Go to SETTINGS – WRITING

Default Post Category is uncategorised.
You can change this after you create Categories. (We will explain this later)

Have a look at these. Do not change anything. No need to click ‘Save Changes’ (because you have not changed anything.)

Now go to SETTINGS – PERMALINKS

Under ‘Common Settings’ check/select ‘POST NAME’

Click ‘SAVE CHANGES’
